The Alberta SPCA is encouraged to see the Government of Alberta demonstrating its commitment to animal welfare by reviewing the Animal Protection Act.
As the agency responsible for enforcing the APA across the province, we see first-hand how ineffective legislation leaves animals in distress. Our vision is that every animal in Alberta is treated humanely, and we can’t do this without strong laws empowering us. We’re thankful that the Government has taken a collaborative approach throughout this review process.
Modernized legislation and strong enforcement will position our province as a leader in animal welfare. Our enforcement team stands ready to implement these changes and build on this progress to keep animals safe in Alberta.
